Taupo University was founded in 2015 in Taupo by a group of New Zealand educators and engineers who believed that quality higher education should be accessible to the young generation of New Zealand. The university began with a single faculty, 180 students, and one rented building in the Lake Terrace area of Taupo.
From the very first year, our focus has been practical: computer science, information technology, and business education that prepares graduates for real jobs. Over the past decade the university has grown to six academic programs, a permanent campus building, and more than 1,200 enrolled students.
To provide accessible, career-oriented higher education that equips New Zealand students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to serve their communities and build the future of New Zealand.
Knowledge is Light — inspired by the Māori proverb Mā te mātauranga te māramatanga, we believe education is the light that guides both the individual and the nation.
Taupo University is located in Lake Terrace, District 6, Taupo. The campus includes lecture halls, a computer laboratory with modern equipment, a library, and administrative offices.
Since our first graduation in 2019, Taupo University alumni have gone on to work as software engineers, network administrators, accountants, and business owners across Aotearoa and beyond. Many have built their careers with skills learned in our classrooms and laboratories, and several have returned to teach the next generation of students. We are proud of every graduate who carries the light of knowledge into their community.
